A 47-year-old woman presented with right, lower leg, varicose veins that were getting worse. We treated the great saphenous vein (the major vein in the leg) with endovenous laser ablation. We treated the surface veins with ultrasound guided schlerotherapy. Afterward there is no visible varicose veins, scarring or abnormal pigmentation.

A 71-year-old man presented with a right lower leg venous ulcer which he'd had for a long time. The results show resolution of the ulcer, the associated varicose veins and swelling. The pigmentation is a remnant of longstanding skin involvement and will fade in time. Dr Paraskevas treated the patient with Endovenous Laser Ablation and Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy.

This 75 year old patient presented to our practice with a longstanding Venous Ulcer of the left lower leg. She had previously had stripping of the Great Saphenous Vein with recurrence through the groin and into an Accessory Saphenous Vein. The ulcer was successfully and permanently healed with a combination of Endovenous Laser Ablation and Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy. The results were taken at 6 months post treatment.

This problem is arguably the most common cosmetic concern presenting to our clinic and most phlebology clinics around Australia. We refer to this collection of "Reticular" and "Telangiectatic" veins as the Lateral Subdermic Venous System. It is considered to be an embryological remnant. It usually only presents in female patients, particularly during pubertal years and following pregnancy. Treatment involves careful Sclerotherapy and in some cases where there are "perforators", Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy.

Varicose Veins - Anterior Thigh Circumflex Vein

This patient presents with a common varicose vein, which phlebologists refer to as the Anterior Thigh Circumflex Vein or Antero-Lateral Thigh Vein. This varicose vein has developed over many years. Duplex ultrasound examination has determined that this vein feeds into the deeper "Great Saphenous Vein". As such, this patient was offered Endovenous Laser Ablation of the Great Saphenous Vein followed by Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy of the Anterior Thigh Circumflex Vein. Her final photo was taken at 8 months post treatment.

This is another example of a patient presenting with grossly tortuous thigh veins. Again, Endovenous Laser was performed on the internal feeding vein followed by Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy of the large, visible varicose veins. The patient's healing time extended to 3-4 months and review at 6 months revealed excellent progress, as illustrated.
