This is one of the most common questions patients ask when calling Vein Health Medical Clinic.

Many patients still think that invasive surgery is the only answer for treating large, bulgy veins. This thought often deters them from even considering having their veins treated, as they would often relate to a horrible experience of a family member or friend who went through this surgical treatment.

Endovenous Laser Treatment which has now been available for a little bit over a decade in Australia, has become an extremely popular alternative to traditional strip surgery.  This procedure was approved by Medicare in 2008 and has been performed at Vein Health Medical Clinic since 2007.

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (injecting solution into veins to seal them off), has been available for 20 years now.  It forms an integral part of any vein treatment and is absolutely imperative for complete and long-lasting results.

The most recent development in vein treatments has been the introduction of a type of “Vein Glue”.  This treatment is still in its early stages and is not covered by Medicare. It works the same way as superglue works, and that is by sticking the walls of a vein together subsequently causing the vein to harden up.
